Build your pizzeria website, city by city

The American pizzeria was born in the neighborhood, and it still lives there. The chains own the national ad budgets, but the corner shop owns something they can’t buy: a regular who knows your crust, your owner and your Friday special. What changed is where that regular starts. It used to be a menu magnet on the fridge. Now it is a search on a phone, and too often the first result is a delivery app.

The commission comes out of your best customers

DoorDash leads delivery in almost every American city, Uber Eats is strong in the big coastal metros, and Grubhub still holds on in New York, Chicago and college towns. All three charge a percentage of every order, and they charge it just the same on the family that has ordered from you for ten years as on a stranger. They also keep the customer’s name and order history. Keep the apps for discovery if they pay their way, but give your regulars a direct line: a site with your menu, sizes in inches, hours and an order button, linked from your Google listing and printed on every box.

A country of regional styles

Pizza in America means something different every few hundred miles, and that is why we write city by city. The Northeast runs on the New York slice from the five boroughs through North Jersey and the Hudson Valley, Buffalo’s cup-and-char pepperoni upstate, New Haven apizza across Connecticut, and Greek-style pans and South Shore bar pizza in Massachusetts. The Midwest has Chicago’s deep dish for visitors and tavern-style party cut for locals, the Detroit square, St. Louis’s cracker crust with Provel, and Columbus’s toppings-to-the-edge thin crust. The South and Texas are mostly a story of independents holding out against the chains in fast-growing suburbs, military towns and college towns. The West brought California-style pies and a Neapolitan wave from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Portland, Seattle, Denver and Phoenix.

Cities we cover

Every page below is about one city, its neighborhoods, its style and its real delivery map, from the suburbs that are separate searches to the downtowns where slice shops sit a block apart. Beyond the lower 48, there are pages for Anchorage and Honolulu.
