Build your pizzeria website in Visalia
Visalia is a valley town where families drive to dinner and travelers pass through on the way to the Sequoias. A pizzeria website lets both find your menu and order directly, so the full price of every pie stays with you instead of going to a delivery app.
A farm town with a real downtown
Visalia is the seat of Tulare County, in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Its economy runs on agriculture, from citrus and grapes to dairy, and the city calls itself the Gateway to the Sequoias, since SR 198 heads east from here into Sequoia National Park. About 145,000 people live here, a little more than half of them Hispanic or Latino.
Downtown Visalia has kept its character, and its best-known independent pizzeria shows it. The Planing Mill Artisan Pizzeria occupies part of the original Visalia Planing Mill building, a lumber business dating to the 1800s. South of downtown, Mooney Boulevard is the commercial strip, and that is where the family chains are, including a Mountain Mike’s with big screens and a lunch buffet. An independent here is competing with a lot of parking lots and a lot of advertising.
Valley heat and valley distances
Visalia is flat and spread out, from SR 99 on the west side across North Visalia, the Eastside and Southwest Visalia. DoorDash and Uber Eats cover downtown and the Mooney corridor well, but a single kitchen sending drivers to every corner of the city is spending a lot of time on the road. In summer, when average July highs are in the mid-90s and some days go well past 100 °F, a long ride in a delivery car is hard on a pie.
Catch the travelers, keep the locals
Every summer weekend, visitors heading to or from the national parks come through Visalia looking for a meal. They search on their phones, and the first result with clear hours, a menu and a photo of the pie wins. If that result is your own site, they can order ahead and pick up on the way, and you keep the entire order.
The locals are your real business, though: farm and dairy families, College of the Sequoias students, workers coming off shifts. Their orders repeat every week, and every one of them that goes through an app pays a commission on a customer you already had. On your own site, the menu price is the counter price, you can write your specials in English and Spanish, and you keep each customer’s name and order so you can bring them back with a new pie or a weeknight deal.
You can keep your app listings for discovery. Then put your own ordering link on the box, at the register and on your Google profile, so the second order comes straight to you.
