Wix for a pizzeria: what to know first
Wix will build you a perfectly good website. What it won’t do is know what a pizzeria is: lunch and dinner hours, pies in 12-, 14- and 16-inch sizes, toppings that change the price, a sold-out button for Friday night. You end up building those out of generic blocks, or paying for an app that does half of it. Fine for a restaurant that needs a brochure; frustrating for one that takes orders.
What it costs
| Plan | Per month | Accepts payments? |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | No |
| Light | ~$18 | No |
| Core | ~$30 | Yes |
| Business | ~$40 | Yes |
| Business Elite | ~$160 | Yes |
Wix plans page, October 2026, prices shown for yearly billing; sales tax is added depending on your state. Wix adjusts prices by location and promotion, so check what it quotes you.
Where a generic builder shows its seams
- Hours. Wix has an hours widget. Getting it to say “closed 2 to 4:30, open until 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday” and drive a live open/closed state is not what it was built for.
- The menu. Either you hand-build it out of text blocks, so every price change is a layout edit, or you add a menu app with its own subscription.
- Sizes and toppings that change the price. A 16-inch with extra pepperoni and a gluten-free crust is three price changes on one item. A generic product catalog doesn’t model that the way a pizza needs.
- Allergens. There is no field for them, so notes about the nine major allergens end up in description text and drift away from the recipe.
- Sales tax and tips. Both have to be set up correctly for your state and your takeout orders, which takes care on a general-purpose store.
When Wix is the right choice
- You want to design it yourself, visually. The editor is good and gives you control a specialist tool won’t.
- The site is a brochure. A sit-down restaurant that takes reservations by phone has much less to model.
- You need more than a restaurant. A blog, events, merchandise, a newsletter: Wix does all of it in one place.
- You already know it. A tool you can already drive beats a better one you won’t open.
The question to ask first
How long does it take to change one price, from your phone, in the middle of a Friday rush? On a general builder the honest answer is usually “later, on a laptop.” That is how menus go stale, and a stale menu costs more than the subscription.
If you do go with Wix
- Register the domain separately, in your own name, so it isn’t tied to the plan.
- Pick a plan that removes branding and takes payments; anything less will need upgrading.
- Build the menu as structured items with sizes in inches, not as a styled text block.
- Put allergen notes next to each dish, not on a separate page.
- Test the open/closed logic on a day with a split shift before you trust it.
